Management training courses

Being a great manager means spinning a lot of plates. A LOT OF PLATES. Alongside the day-to-day responsibilities of our own job, we also need to manage our team, stakeholders, budgets, partners and suppliers. It’s no mean feat. To do this successfully, we need exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as knowledge on topics we may not have experience in, like HR or finance. Luckily, Sterling Training has management training courses covering all these bases. If you’re ready to take management skills to the next level, get in touch or book places on one of our Upcoming Courses.

What is the difference between leadership and management?

The terms leadership and management are often used interchangeably. It’s understandable considering leaders and managers can play very similar roles, however there are some distinct differences that are important to bear in mind. A manager takes responsibility for the organisation of people, processes or things. A leader influences, motivates and inspires people. One is functional and one is emotional. The two are not the same, nor are they mutually exclusive. You can be a great leader, you can be a great manager or you can be both.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you teach leadership and management skills?

All of our training is learner-centred. That means it’s highly experiential, and yes, that often involves role play. Talking about using a technique and actually using the technique give two very different results. We focus on giving our participants real, practical skills on how to lead and manage effectively. Our trainers set up a safe environment then take a facilitative approach and teach theory only where and when it’s most useful.

What are the benefits of training my managers?

Managing people and building teams effectively is one of the toughest parts of the job and many managers are self-taught, relying on their role models and guidance from the HR department, if they have one. So, empower your managers with the skills and confidence to build, performance manage and develop their teams themselves.

Why is training my managers important?

As the old saying goes ‘people don’t leave jobs, they leave managers’. Recruiting, developing and retaining staff is an expensive business. By training your managers you will save on recruitment costs, maintain a healthy retention ratio, save money and be more profitable.

Who would benefit from attending leadership and management training?

None of us is the finished article, so we have courses for all levels . Give your team leaders the essentials, prepare potential managers for their next role or train senior execs to drive strategy and creative thinking – all parts of the business will benefit.

Should we choose a public / open course or a customised course?

Our public courses are very popular and helpful if you have aspiring, new or experienced managers who need to sharpen their skills. They will learn by hearing opinions and experiences from other participants from different companies, all of which helps in the development process. If you have groups of managers that need to be developed, it is often more cost and time-effective to have them working together on projects and topics of importance across the business in a more customised programme. Tell us what you’re trying to achieve and we’ll advise.

Why is training my staff important?

Recruiting and developing staff is an expensive business. A comprehensive learning and development programme will build employee engagement and help you retain staff. Training key staff to develop their peers will help them build confidence and share their skills and knowledge to ensure continuity as well as reduce expensive outsourcing costs.
